Open Positions: W1-Professorship (Tenure Track W2) and W3-Professorship for Privacy

Applicants should have an excellent track record in research and teaching in at least one of the following areas:

  • Cryptographic tools for privacy
  • Differential privacy and private data analysis
  • Machine learning and privacy
  • Anonymous communication and censorship resistance
  • Game theory approaches for privacy
  • Data protection technologies

We are looking for a scientist with an internationally visible research profile, who complements already existing focus areas and actively participates in the development of the newly founded Faculty of Computer Science. We expect a willingness to cooperate with the Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security (a Research Department of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum) as well as an active role in current and planned projects, especially in the Cluster of Excellence "CASA: Cyber Security in the Age of Large Scale Adversaries". The Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy offers additional possibilities for collaboration.

Regarding the W1-Professorship (with Tenure Track W2): The position will be filled with a tenure track for the professorship to W2. If the evaluation is positive, the professorship will be appointed to a W2 position in an appropriately simplified procedure without a new announcement.The responsibilities of the future chair holder include participation in teaching in the courses of study in IT security and computer science. Excellent scientific qualification is required, usually evidenced by a doctorate of outstanding quality and top international publications as well as proof of special suitability for academic teaching.  Also required is the willingness to participate in academic self-administration.

Regarding the W3-Professorship: The responsibilities of the future chair holder include participation in teaching in the courses of study in IT security and computer science. Excellent scientific qualification is required, usually evidenced by a doctorate of outstanding quality, top international publications, positive evaluation as a junior professor, habilitation or equivalent academic achievement as well as proof of special suitability for academic teaching. Also required is the willingness to participate in academic self-administration.

We expect furthermore:

  • strong commitment in teaching,
  • the readiness for interdisciplinary scientific work,
  • willingness and ability to acquire third-party funded research projects or to participate in existing cooperations.
