Quantum computers could revolutionize complex problems and processes in science, business, industry and society in the future. Numerous research institutions and companies are already conducting intensive research in the field of quantum computing, which combines quantum physics and computer science. The German Physical Society e.V. (DPG) picks up this highly topical research area and invites all interested master students, PhDs and prospective postdocs to expand their knowledge spectrum in the field of quantum computing during a summer school at the Physikzentrum Bad Honnef from August 14-19, 2022.

Quantum researcher Prof. Dr. Michael Walter from the Cluster of Excellence CASA is organizing the school from the scientific side together with colleagues from Cologne and Riga. The event is supported by the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation and the DPG. It is actively supported by the Clusters of Excellence CASA and ML4Q, which contribute to the organization and financing.

The summer school will provide an introduction to the theory of quantum computing and offer lectures by internationally leading experts. Basic concepts of quantum computing, the mathematical model of quantum computers and the most important algorithms and applications of quantum computing will be presented. In practical exercises, participants will have the opportunity to apply algorithms in practice and to deepen their knowledge. Important parts of the school in August are also a networking event for women in quantum technologies, a panel discussion on quantum computing in industry, and a field trip to the quantum computing labs of the ML4Q collaboration in Cologne.

The interdisciplinary summer school is especially aimed at master students, doctoral researchers and postdoctoral researchers with a background in computer science, physics or related fields.
