An extraordinary project ends with a festive closing: On Thursday, April 28, the final artwork will be presented, which the media artist Marco Barotti has created in the course of the art-science residency RE:SEARCHING IT SECURITY in the past months. In the fall of last year, he submitted the initial idea for his project entitled APES as part of an open call and succeeded against 16 other artists from all over the world.
In collaboration with researchers from the Cluster of Excellence CASA, the Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security and the Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy, the idea has grown into a work of art that offers an extraordinary view on IT security as well as data protection, surveillance and sustainability. Over many weeks, the researchers* met with Marco digitally or on the RUB campus and discussed with him their research topics and visions for the future. During the mutual exchange, intensive discussions and reflections, new impulses, ideas and thought-provoking impulses constantly emerged, which shaped the outcome of the artwork.
As in all his artworks, two factors play a particularly important role in Marco Barotti's work: the integration of sound and the integration of elements from nature. This is also reflected in his work APES - together with the awareness of the impact of human activity on our planet. The observer can expect a collection of kinetic sound sculptures, in which - through video interviews - the researchers involved also have their say.
The artwork will be presented on April 28 in the Open Space of the Faculty of Computer Science in the MC building on the campus of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Marco Barotti will present his artwork and give insights into the creation process. In addition, participating researchers will talk about their experiences and impressions of the last months. This evening offers the unique chance to take a look at the artwork and to experience it in action. Afterwards, it will go on a journey, stopping in South Korea (Space LOOP, Seoul), Austria (Ars Electronica, Linz) and Slovenia (Festival IZIS, Koper).

- Language: The event will be mainly held in English.
- Corona: As things currently stand, the event will take place under 2G+ conditions (subject to change). Changes in view of the Corona location in April are possible. !Update! 13.04.2022: There are no longer any access restrictions at the event. However, the obligation to wear a mask still applies inside the building.
