What can participants expect?
Creative.Minds is a three-day workshop for women eager to learn more about hacking and CTFs. CTF stands for "Capture the Flag," representing competitions where puzzles in the context of cybersecurity are solved. The workshop, held on the campus of Ruhr University Bochum, provides participants with a comprehensive introduction to web security and CTFs by experienced trainers Johanna and Gina. Additionally, it offers ample opportunities for participants to get to know each other and build valuable connections. Furthermore, experts from academia and industry will share their career paths and current professional experiences.

How to participate?
Here is an overview of the participation requirements:

  • Age between 16 and 25
  • Residency in Germany
  • Proficiency in German
  • Interest in computer science, web technology, and cybersecurity
  • No prior participation in a Creative Minds workshop
  • Participation in the qualifier: Details can be found at https://creativeminds.ruhr. The top 25 participants with the most points will be invited to Bochum, with travel and accommodation expenses covered.

The application deadline is January 31, 2024.

Who is behind Creative.Minds 2024?
The event is organized by members of the CTF teams FluxFingers and RedRocket, the Max-Planck-Institute for Security and Privacy, and Ruhr University Bochum. Support is provided by the Cluster of Excellence CASA, CUBE 5, and GData.

Why is Creative.Minds important to us?
Women are significantly underrepresented in the field of IT security and the CTF community. This workshop was initiated to break down entry barriers, provide women with the opportunity to connect, and demonstrate that CTFs are a game for everyone. Through exchange and the establishment of a strong network, we aim to enable women to have a successful start in the world of cybersecurity.
