BASTION was a European Research Council (ERC) funded project (2015-2020) focused on computer security with an emphasis on the so-called Internet of Things (IoT). The project created preliminary work for the CASA (Cybersecurity in the Age of Large-Scale Adversaries) cluster of excellence, which started in 2019.

BASTION's research was depicted in a webcomic in 2018 as part of the ERC-funded ERCcOMICS project. The aim of the comic project was to make the findings of ERC-funded projects more tangible and understandable to society through the medium of comics. The story is based on the research of the group around CASA PI Thorsten Holz. In short texts, the reference to current research topics is explained. The comic was drawn by cartoonist Ira Marcks under the title "The Exploit".

Based on this comic, a coloring book has now been developed that allows a creative exploration of the topic. When coloring, one is transported to the year 2032: Here, you get to know the Cynical Cyclops Club, made up of Lane and Charlie, whose activities range from hacking science fairs to compromising an entire country's school exams.

If you are interested in the coloring book, feel free to contact us at hgi-presse(at)rub.de. We will then be happy to send you a copy.
