Women in IT Security

Whether in communication, health, or mobility: IT security plays an important role in all socially relevant areas. The continuous linking of the digital and physical worlds is constantly presenting new challenges and questions. Innovative solutions and ideas are needed! Curiosity, openness, creativity, and the ability to shift perspectives are therefore essential skills for a career in IT security.

The career opportunities are as diverse as the challenges. With our series Women in IT Security, we aim to highlight the variety of paths and opportunities in IT security – especially for women – and introduce exciting women with different research focuses who work here at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) and our partner institutes.

Carina is a PhD student at the Chair for Stochastics at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), within the Cluster of Excellence CASA.

Her Research:

In her research, she focuses on statistical guarantees for methods that ensure privacy in terms of Differential Privacy. In the classical case, Bootstrap is a widely used and well-studied principle for determining such guarantees. She investigates whether and how this principle can be implemented under Differential Privacy, currently for Stochastic Gradient Descent. Carina successfully completed her master’s degree in Mathematics at RUB in 2021.
