The HGI, established in 2001 is the pioneering research center in Germany, with an excellent international reputation. It is a unique interdisciplinary structure that spans the faculties of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Mathematics, Economics, Law, Philology, Psychology and Social Sciences. The Horst Görtz Institute is very well connected within both the national and the international scientific community. Over the last ten years, the PIs have conducted more than 50 joint projects with national partners, funded by DFG, BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) and BMWi (Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy).
The Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy will become an international scientific hotspot for IT Security research. When fully completed, 200 to 250 internationally renowned scientists will be active here and attract numerous young researchers. With six directors and approximately 15 junior research groups, the institute will be exceptionally well equipped. There will be numerous opportunities for collaboration between CASA and the new MPI-SP. In fact, research priorities in CASA and MPI-SP are specifically designed to complement and stimulate each other.
With the help of CASA and the Max Planck Institute (MPI-SP), Bochum is about to become the capital for IT security in Germany and Europe.
The Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) is an important cornerstone of Bochum’s digital ecosystem and offers many synergies for CASA. CAIS promotes innovative, interdisciplinary research on the rapid social, political and economic changes brought about by digitalization. CAIS is designed as an institute for advanced study that funds and supports individual international and national researchers with a fellowship program as well as research groups in undertaking projects or organizing events at CAIS.
Part of CASA’s research will be carried out together with Distinguished CASA Partners. This will enable long-term collaboration with outstanding, internationally renowned scientists who will strengthen specific Research Challenges. The group includes recipients of the Gödel and Turing awards, Sloan fellows, and seven ERC grantees in the areas of cryptography, system and embedded security as well as usability.
CASA International network: The CASA PIs have built a vast international network, which will be benefitial for various collaborations within CASA.
